If you want a Baby and a Sex Life - Avoid Soy !

If you want a Baby and a Sex Life - Avoid Soy !

Men who ate even a little bit of soy based food products had dramatically lower sperm counts than those that didn't !

The men in the study were patients at a male fertility clinic who couldn't get their partners pregnant. Scientists tracked their eating habits for six years and found that eating as little as four ounces of tofu or drinking a single cup of soy milk every other day caused men's sperm counts to plummet.

Why? Soy contains plant chemicals that mimic female hormones (estrogens) that can lower sex drive and sperm counts, increase chest fat (male breasts), and cause prostate problems.

Did you know that Buddhist monks would eat soy to curb their libido?

Soy Products include: tofu, natto, tempeh, soy milk, soybean oil, soy flour, miso soup, soy burgers, and energy bars.

Chiropractic Brings Better Birth Outcomes

Chiropractic Brings Better Birth Outcomes

Chiropractic during pregnancy is an important part of prenatal care. Unfortunately, not enough women know of the benefits of chiropractic care both for themselves and their unborn baby. A woman's body undergoes an amazing amount of changes during pregnancy.

As her baby grows her musculoskeletal system must adjust accordingly to accommodate the growing uterus and prepare for delivery. Chiropractic care helps her body to stay aligned as these changes occur and also helps to keep the nervous system functioning at its optimal level. Many pregnant women experience low back pain, hip pain, and pubic symphysis.

These discomforts are the result of the stresses put on the body by the rapid growth of the baby and the changes the body must undergo to accommodate those adjustments. As her belly gets bigger, the woman's center of gravity changes. The growth is so quick that it is often difficult for the low back and pelvis to adjust to this change. This causes stress in those areas, resulting in misalignments, (or subluxations as they are called by chiropractors) which then causes pain and dysfunction.

If a woman's low back and pelvis was out of alignment before her pregnancy it is even harder for her back and pelvis to adjust. When the pelvis is subluxated (misaligned) it affects the uterus and the position of the growing baby. The uterus is connected to the pelvis by ligaments: the broad ligament, the uterosacral ligaments, and the round ligaments. Like a hot air balloon tethered to the ground, these ligaments work to keep the uterus in the proper place in the pelvis and allow support as the uterus grows to accommodate the growing baby.

If the pelvis is subluxated, these ligaments can become torqued. When the ligaments are affected, they directly affect the position of the uterus which can result in the baby not being in an optimal position. This type of situation may result in a breech baby or a transverse (sideways) baby. The goal of the chiropractor is to correct the subluxations in the pelvis to help balance the uterus and allow the baby to get into a better position.

Chiropractic adjustments for a pregnant woman are specific, gentle, and safe. Some chiropractors are certified in the Webster Technique which is a technique that is used to relieve intrauterine constraint caused by imbalance in the pelvis and the pelvic ligaments. Webster certified chiropractors adjust the pelvis and also feel for and relieve tension in the round ligaments.Besides increasing a pregnant woman's comfort level, an aligned pelvis can result in a quicker, safer, and easier birth.

When a baby is in breech or transverse position a cesarean section is almost always performed. Because they are so common many people forget that a c-section is a major abdominal surgery and can be risky. Helping the baby to get into a proper head-down position by balancing the pelvis and ligaments helps to avoid c-sections due to baby positioning. Other variations in baby position such as a tilted head or a "sunny side up" baby (face up during delivery) can also be caused by pelvic imbalance and may result in a more difficult, painful, and longer labor and delivery.

What is KST? What is Koren Specific Technique?

What is KST? What is Koren Specific Technique?

What is KST?
In late 2003, as a result of research and clinical experimentation, Tedd Koren developed an improved form of chiropractic spinal care that he now calls Koren Specific Technique. Patients can be more thoroughly analyzed than ever before, with the adjustments holding better and for longer periods of time.

What is Koren Specific Technique? The procedure is made up of three steps (the 3 Cs):

The first step, challenging, is part of the analysis procedure. In a relatively short period of time the entire structural system can be checked: skull, spine, discs, hips, ribs, sternum, shoulders, arms, legs, hands, feet – literally anything that is out of position can be analyzed.

The second step, checking, tells me if the body part is in its proper position. The base of the skull is used as a yes/no device. Thus we have a binary or yes/no system telling us if an area needs or does not need to be corrected or adjusted. This system is akin to muscle testing (applied kinesiology or AK) wherein a muscle will become weak when confronted with a negative impulse.

Correcting, step three. When an adjustment is needed the area is corrected using the Arthrostim™ adjusting instrument. The ArthroStim™ is an FDA approved instrument developed by IMPAC technology in Oregon. It has been continuously refined and perfected over its 22-year history. It introduces energy/force/information to the body to realign segments and remove nerve pressure at a speed of 12 "taps" per second (12 hertz); it is a fast, accurate, low force and controlled adjustment.

The ArthroStim™ gives patients a very specific adjustment, meaning that only the segment that is out of position is adjusted; there is no twisting, turning or "cracking" of joints. This technique permits adjusting in different postures.

This is very important because sometimes a problem can only be reproduced in a certain position. For example, a driver in a car accident (sitting) may not reveal their spinal damage or subluxations when standing; therefore they must be analyzed and corrected in the seated position. This is especially noticeable with people who suffer pain, neurological problems, TMJ and other conditions.

Adjusting people in the standing position has the added benefit of working with gravity. I don’t have to say, "OK, please stand up and see how you feel" because the patient is already standing. Their body can process the adjustment or correction immediately.

Most people report a feeling of ease, relaxation and well-being as their structural nerve stress (subluxations) releases/diminishes. Some people feel very relaxed and they should listen to their body and go home and sleep if at all possible.

The next day some people feel as if they’ve had a good workout, often in places they never knew they had. This is usually felt only after the first adjustment, is temporary and usually disappears within a short time.

People have many layers. After the correction of what the body is showing at the time, older injuries, older distortions, older subluxations and older symptoms (both physical and emotional) may surface to release. The release and healing of old injuries is known as "retracing" and is usually part of the healing process.

On occasion patients have reported "cleansing" symptoms such as diarrhea, pus, mucus, headache, fever, etc. as toxins leave the body. These symptoms are usually temporary. It is helpful to be told if unusual symptoms arise. These symptoms may take the form of emotional releases: old memories coming up or unusual dreams.

Sometimes an area is so weak and the distortion so extensive that a segment put in place may not stay in position and may need correcting again.

I pulled my lower back out and was in excruciating pain !

Chiropractic Patient Testimonial for Van Every Chiropractic

"I had pulled my lower back out, and was in excruciating pain. I wasn’t able to get in on Saturday, so I couldn’t get in until Monday morning. For two days I had trouble walking, sitting, moving much and sleeping. The pain was always with me. I was taking pain medication with little results. Monday morning after the adjustment the pain was gone. I was still a little sore, but it was like night and day difference. My movement was restored. I even had a headache that Dr. Anna Saylor tended to, and it was gone! I can’t express my thanks and confidence I have for the doctors at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center. It totally changed my body. I was out of alignment; without an adjustment it wouldn’t have changed. "
