Chiropractic is key for the treatment and care of emotional illnesses

We at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center of Royal Oak, Michigan, care about your health and well-being and strive to provide you with current information in a variety of health topics!

Mental health and chiropractic
Did you know that, over a forty-year period, Doctors of Chiropractic and chiropractic schools operated nearly two hundred hospitals? They were built on the principal that chiropractic care, with proper subluxation correction, a healthy, nutritious diet, exercise, fresh air and sunlight, had powerful healing effects. (1)

What especially amazed clinicians were the beneficial effects chiropractic had on those suffering from “mental and emotional disorders.” Chiropractic care was especially helpful for people who suffered from anxiety, “nervous disorders” (as they were then called) and more severe forms of emotional illness.
In time the chiropractic profession owned and operated two hospitals devoted to mental health: Clear View Sanitarium and Forest Park Sanitarium, both in Davenport, Iowa. Over a 40-year period, the chiropractic hospitals had greater success than the state mental hospitals. (2)

The results so impressed North Dakota circuit court judge A.W. Ponath that he consistently refused to send a patient to the state mental hospital unless they first spent time in the chiropractic institution. (3)

Why? Because without drugs, surgery (pre-frontal lobotomies) and electric shock therapy, chiropractic promoted real brain health and had a greater healing success rate.

Today chiropractors see many patients suffering from anxiety, depression, addiction, ADD, ADHD, autism and other conditions related to a dysfunctioning nervous system. (4)

Chiropractors are specially trained to locate nerve interference (spinal nerve stress) and release or correct it. Once your nerve interference is released your nervous system, especially your brain and spinal cord, is able to communicate with all your body systems – your immune, digestive, circulatory, endocrine and muscular systems as well as all the rest – to help them function closer to their potential and to improve your natural healing ability. (5)

Everyone of us in this (often) stress-filled world needs to see a Doctor of Chiropractic for a chance to enjoy some drug-free healthcare and less stress in their lives – it could make a big difference for your physical and mental health.

More support for breast feeding!

We at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center of Royal Oak, Michigan, care about your health and well-being and strive to provide you with current information in a variety of health topics!

"Breast is best"

“Breast is best” is now accepted beyond all doubt as the proper nutrition for babies. Studies show that it’s also a very good thing for mothers. In fact, mothers who breast-feed have a lower risk of getting breast cancer (1) and breast-fed babies have a decreased risk of getting breast cancer when they grow up. (2) Women who breast-fed had less breast cancer and infants who were exclusively breast-fed for 16 weeks or more had a 50% lower rate of acute otitis media (ear infections). (3)

If breastfeeding is natural feeding, then formula feeding is artificial feeding. Obstetrician Mayer Eisenstein writes: "Formula is no magic concoction. Anyone who reads the ingredients on a can of infant formula will see that it is simply a recipe of cow's milk, sugar and water. Although “experts” may assure you that pasteurized cow's milk, refined sugar and chlorinated tap water is an adequate substitute for breast milk, there is no evidence (none) that this is true and mountains of evidence that infant formula can be detrimental to your baby's health. What does a subluxation do to me: why chiropractic care is so important!

We at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center of Royal Oak, Michigan, care about your health and well-being and strive to provide you with current information in a variety of health topics!

Subluxations are distortions in your body that interfere with your internal communications.

Doctors of Chiropractic locate and correct subluxations to promote improved health, healing, balance, energy and connection.

Among the ways subluxations damage your health and well-being are the following:

1. Spine and structural distortions. They can express as one leg being shorter than the other; one hip or shoulder not being in line with the other; hips being unbalanced. A distorted body causes weakness, fatigue and overall body malfunction (dis-ease).

2. Nerve interference. Your brain, spinal cord and nerves cannot send information and energy at top efficiency. You may feel pain or feel like you’re in a mental fog or both.

3. Chemical changes. This can cause inflammation of joints, ligaments, discs and bones. It can cause pain, weakness, lack of energy and dis-ease.

4. Muscle stress. This can express as trigger points, pain, soreness, weakness, imbalance and fatigue.

5. Internal organ weakness. Depending on which nerves are affected, your internal organs can be weakened which can result in malfunction, tissue weakness and disease.

Now do you see why it’s so important to get a chiropractic checkup to make sure you are free of subluxations? Why carry them around inside you? Subluxations are like cavities in the teeth – slowly damaging your health. It’s best to locate and correct them early, before they cause serious health problems.

"Are people who see chiropractors healthier?", asks Van Every Family Chiropractic

We at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center of Royal Oak, Michigan, care about your health and well-being and strive to provide you with current information in a variety of health topics!

Numerous studies have confirmed what chiropractors and their patients have known for a long time: people who visit chiropractors for regular care are healthier – no matter how old or young.

For example, in one study the researchers concluded: “[Chiropractic] patients report significant positive changes in physical health, mental/emotional state, stress and life enjoyment…” (1)

While in another study it was found that: “Chiropractic is associated with significant benefits in physical and mental/emotional state and combined wellness.” (2)

In yet another study the authors found that: “Chiropractic users were less likely to be hospitalized, less likely to use a nursing home, and less likely to use prescription drugs, more likely to have better health, to exercise, to be mobile.” One of the more interesting things about this study was that it involved people over 75 years of age!!! We can help your headaches at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center!

We at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center of Royal Oak, Michigan, care about your health and well-being and strive to provide you with current information in a variety of health topics!

What Puts the 'Ache' in Headache?

The ache in headache does not come from your brain—your brain cannot feel pain. During brain surgery a patient is often wide awake feeling nothing, even talking to the surgeons and nurses while his/her brain is being operated on (a local anesthetic numbs the scalp). So what puts the "ache" in headache? It's the non-brain structures: blood vessels, membranes and cranial nerves in the brain and skull. When these structures are stretched, compressed, irritated, inflamed or infected headaches often result.

The Chiropractic Approach

Why have millions of headache sufferers turned to the natural, drug-free chiropractic approach to health? (1)

That's because chiropractic has a unique healing approach—chiropractors are the only health professionals trained to analyze your body for a serious and often ignored condition that can damage your nerves, inflame your tissues, cause muscles to tighten and knot, weaken your body, cause fatigue and set the stage for sickness and disease. This condition is called the subluxation.

Just as you may have a cavity in your tooth and be unaware of the damage it's causing, so a subluxation may be causing serious harm to your body—sometimes for years—without your knowledge.

The Chiropractic Checkup

If you have a subluxation we will give you a safe, gentle adjustment to correct the subluxation, thus removing nerve pressure and structural distortions.

Why Does Chiropractic Work So Well?

One study of 6,000 long-term headache sufferers (two to 25 years) revealed that neck injury (whiplash, falls) was the most important factor in the cause of the headache and should be suspected in every nonspecific case of headache. (2)

Subluxation correction has powerful effects. In a randomized controlled trial performed at the University of Odense, Denmark, those under chiropractic care decreased their use of painkillers by 36% and the number of headache hours per day decreased by 69%. (3)

Headaches affect children too. For example, a 10-year-old girl with chronic, severe migraine (6 times a week for the past 3 years) was unable to go to school due to the severity of her condition. Neurologists could not help her. A chiropractic examination revealed a subluxation in her upper neck. After her third adjustment she was off her pain medications and by the third week she was back in school, had started dance classes for the first time in 2 years, "and actually began to smile again. She was leading a normal and healthy life for a child her age by the end of the 5th visit." (4)

Not A Headache Therapy

For over a hundred years headache and migraine sufferers have turned to chiropractic for help, and yet chiropractic is not a headache therapy or treatment. Chiropractic's role is not to treat any specific disease, but to care for the person who has the condition by ensuring that their entire body functions better by correcting their subluxations.

Anyone suffering from headaches (and any other condition) should make sure the nervous system and structural system is free from subluxations—for the health of their whole body, not just certain parts.

Van Every Family Chiropractic Center asks, "Are germs bad?"

We at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center of Royal Oak, Michigan, care about your health and well-being and strive to provide you with current information in a variety of health topics!

They float in the air we breathe, in our food and water, on our skin and in our bodies. We’re full of lots of little life forms we call by all kinds of names such as bacteria, ameba, paramecium, algae, protozoa and others. Some can live in the extreme frozen north, others can survive in boiling water – some need sunlight, some live in darkness.

There are so many of them that scientists will probably never discover and catalog them all.

A common term for these little creatures is germ. People hear the word germ and think of disease. But the fact is they almost never make us sick. Infection is the exception, not the rule. “Germs” normally live with us in harmony, and as long as our immune system is doing its job, even the meanest, scariest germs can’t bother us.

Germs even help us stay healthy – they are important for our intestines and for nutrition – that’s why antibiotics can be so dangerous. Antibiotics kill bacteria and throw off our intestinal bacterial balance leading to fungal infections and other conditions.

In a recent study it was found that most people carry the meningococcal bacteria in their throat intermittently during their lives without ever developing the disease. Prior to the study, it was not known why some people in the population develop meningococcal meningitis and septicemia while others appear to be naturally immune to the bacteria. (2)

What does this have to do with chiropractic?
Chiropractic is holistic – it sees us as part of the whole. We are meant to live in this germ-filled world in health. Chiropractic care helps keep your immune system healthy by keeping your nervous system free of subluxation stress.

Want to ensure your immune system is functioning at its optimum? Bring in the family for a chiropractic checkup. It’s very important during cold and flu season. And if you do come down with a cold or the flu, a chiropractic adjustment can help you fight it off quicker.

Can Van Every Family Chiropractic center improve my mood?

We at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center of Royal Oak, Michigan, care about your health and well-being and strive to provide you with current information in a variety of health topics!

Another reason to seek chiropractic care? Chiropractic is good for your brain. In fact, since chiropractic’s discovery the psychotherapeutic (mental health) benefits of chiropractic are well documented. For many years Doctors of Chiropractic founded and operated mental institutions and sanitaria where chiropractic care and natural healing were practiced. A higher cure rate was reported in the chiropractic institutions than that of the state mental hospitals (that used drugs, electric shock therapy and insulin shock therapy). (1)

For years patients have told their chiropractors that they felt “clearer” and more focused when they received chiropractic adjustments. There are clinical studies that have revealed that children concentrate better, have IQ improvement and have better behavior under chiropractic care. (2-3)

A relatively new clinical study has recently been published in the Chiropractic Journal of Australia.

In this study ten subjects between 10 and 62 years of age were adjusted for subluxations. They were tested before and after their adjustments. The majority of the subjects were found to have enhanced scores on the post-test showing a short-term improvement in creativity. It is not known if the improvements were due to less stress, increased blood to the brain or some other mechanism. (4)

Is there a link between Alzheimer's and the flu shot?

We thought it appropriate to remind everyone that according to Hugh Fudenberg, MD, the world's leading immunogeneticist and 13th most quoted biologist of our time (over 850 papers in peer reviewed journals), if an individual has had five consecutive flu shots their chance of getting Alzheimer's disease is ten times higher than if they had one, two or no shots. (1)

Why? Dr. Fudenberg reports that this is due to the mercury in flu shots (and many childhood and RhoGam shots); these toxins build up in the brain causing cognitive dysfunction. Is that why Alzheimer's is expected to quadruple? (2)

By the way, to disprove the Alzheimer’s/flu shots connection, some Toronto MDs went to nursing homes and asked people with Alzheimer’s if they remember getting a flu shot. Most said they didn’t remember getting one. Not surprising since Alzheimer’s victims may not remember the names of their spouse. Anyway, based on this “research” they concluded the flu shots didn’t cause Alzheimer’s (we are not making this up).

But the disclaimer in the paper’s abstract negated its value: “Because of the self-reported nature of the risk factor questionnaire we cannot exclude the possibility of recall bias.” (3)
