Otitis media (ear infection). A nine-month-old boy with a history of recurring ear infections was presented by his mother for chiropractic care. The child had antibiotic therapy and the MDs were suggesting ear surgery and tubes.
Chiropractic care was actually initiated during an episode of otitis media. Cranial adjusting and sinus work along with vertebral subluxation correction was utilized and within one week both ears were reported clear. No ear infections have been reported since and the child is no longer on antibiotics and will not have surgery. (15)

Chiropractic is not a “treatment” for specific diseases or conditions but a way of releasing (or removing) interference, blockages, stresses and imbalances (subluxations) from the body. This releases energy for healing, regeneration and growth. The only true healer is the wisdom of your body. Chiropractic’s goal is to let it flow through you without interference.
All people (especially children) need a body free of blockages and stress so they’ll have strong, happy and healthy lives. Below are some examples of what happens when chiropractors correct subluxations.
Scoliosis. A 10-year-old female presented to a private chiropractic practice with a chief complaint of migraine headache and a 35° thoracolumbar scoliosis curve.
Chiropractic adjustments were directed to the upper neck (upper cervical) area. The patient received six such adjustments over a period of 11 visits and 25 weeks (the patient did not receive an adjustment at every visit). A 10° reduction in her scoliosis curve was independently assessed. (6)
Otitis media (ear infection), swollen adenoids, nasal congestion, hearing loss and speech difficulties. A 4-year-old boy suffering from otitis media with effusion (middle ear infection), adenoid hypertrophy, nasal congestion, bilateral hearing loss, speech difficulties, developmental delay and behavioral concerns was brought in for chiropractic care. Spinal analysis revealed vertebral subluxations at the upper cervical (neck) and upper thoracic (mid-back) vertebral levels.

Chiropractic and ear infections
In this study, ear infections were found to recur more often if the child was originally treated with amoxicillin (an antibiotic). The researchers found that acute otitis media (middle ear infection) recurred in 63% (47/75) of children in the amoxicillin group compared to 43% (37/86) of the children in the placebo group. The authors write, “This is another argument for judicious use of antibiotics in children with acute otitis media.” (6)
This is another reason to bring your child in for chiropractic care especially if he/she has ear infections. Many clinical reports and studies have praised the drug-free, non-surgical chiropractic success with ear infections in children.
For example, in one study of 211 infants, examined 5 days after birth, who suffered from vomiting, hyperactivity and sleeplessness, chiropractic care frequently resulted in the immediate cessation of crying, muscular relaxation and sleepiness. The authors, who are medical doctors, wrote that an unhealthy spine "causes many clinical features from central motor impairment to lower resistance to infections – especially ear, nose and throat infections." They assert that all newborns should have their spines checked by chiropractors as "the success of adjustment overshadows every other type of [care]." (7)
