Chiropractic is key for the treatment and care of emotional illnesses

We at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center of Royal Oak, Michigan, care about your health and well-being and strive to provide you with current information in a variety of health topics!

Mental health and chiropractic
Did you know that, over a forty-year period, Doctors of Chiropractic and chiropractic schools operated nearly two hundred hospitals? They were built on the principal that chiropractic care, with proper subluxation correction, a healthy, nutritious diet, exercise, fresh air and sunlight, had powerful healing effects. (1)

What especially amazed clinicians were the beneficial effects chiropractic had on those suffering from “mental and emotional disorders.” Chiropractic care was especially helpful for people who suffered from anxiety, “nervous disorders” (as they were then called) and more severe forms of emotional illness.
In time the chiropractic profession owned and operated two hospitals devoted to mental health: Clear View Sanitarium and Forest Park Sanitarium, both in Davenport, Iowa. Over a 40-year period, the chiropractic hospitals had greater success than the state mental hospitals. (2)

The results so impressed North Dakota circuit court judge A.W. Ponath that he consistently refused to send a patient to the state mental hospital unless they first spent time in the chiropractic institution. (3)

Why? Because without drugs, surgery (pre-frontal lobotomies) and electric shock therapy, chiropractic promoted real brain health and had a greater healing success rate.

Today chiropractors see many patients suffering from anxiety, depression, addiction, ADD, ADHD, autism and other conditions related to a dysfunctioning nervous system. (4)

Chiropractors are specially trained to locate nerve interference (spinal nerve stress) and release or correct it. Once your nerve interference is released your nervous system, especially your brain and spinal cord, is able to communicate with all your body systems – your immune, digestive, circulatory, endocrine and muscular systems as well as all the rest – to help them function closer to their potential and to improve your natural healing ability. (5)

Everyone of us in this (often) stress-filled world needs to see a Doctor of Chiropractic for a chance to enjoy some drug-free healthcare and less stress in their lives – it could make a big difference for your physical and mental health.
