What does a subluxation do to me: why chiropractic care is so important!

We at Van Every Family Chiropractic Center of Royal Oak, Michigan, care about your health and well-being and strive to provide you with current information in a variety of health topics!

Subluxations are distortions in your body that interfere with your internal communications.

Doctors of Chiropractic locate and correct subluxations to promote improved health, healing, balance, energy and connection.

Among the ways subluxations damage your health and well-being are the following:

1. Spine and structural distortions. They can express as one leg being shorter than the other; one hip or shoulder not being in line with the other; hips being unbalanced. A distorted body causes weakness, fatigue and overall body malfunction (dis-ease).

2. Nerve interference. Your brain, spinal cord and nerves cannot send information and energy at top efficiency. You may feel pain or feel like you’re in a mental fog or both.

3. Chemical changes. This can cause inflammation of joints, ligaments, discs and bones. It can cause pain, weakness, lack of energy and dis-ease.

4. Muscle stress. This can express as trigger points, pain, soreness, weakness, imbalance and fatigue.

5. Internal organ weakness. Depending on which nerves are affected, your internal organs can be weakened which can result in malfunction, tissue weakness and disease.

Now do you see why it’s so important to get a chiropractic checkup to make sure you are free of subluxations? Why carry them around inside you? Subluxations are like cavities in the teeth – slowly damaging your health. It’s best to locate and correct them early, before they cause serious health problems.

Nate has suffered with IBS for the past 2 1/2 years

Nate's Story ~My son, Nathan has been seeing Dr. Saylor for about 5 months now. We could not be happier with the results. Nate has suffered from IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) for the last 2 ½ years. Nate’s problems started around 1 year of age, after he went off formula and onto whole milk, we noticed him struggling to have bowel movements. At that time his pediatrician recommended trying lactose free or silk milk. Several months after being on lactose free milk, we still saw no improvement. We went on to see a GI specialist at Children’s Hospital. The doctor there put him on medication (laxative) and ran some tests to rule out any other medical conditions. The doctor said that the problems he was having would not get better over night and that it could take months or even years. The doctor also said to change his diet to a high fiber diet. I did the best I could, but those who have children know how hard it is to have a 2 year old eat only certain foods. A year later there was little improvement. We went back to the GI specialist, had more tests done and more medications to try.
It was now another year later and still no changes. In the fall of 2009, I took Nate to his regular pediatrician for his wellness exam. I told the doctor that Nate still struggles several times a day to have bowel movements, so he took some X-rays and revealed that his little body was full of stool. Nate was only having bowel movements once a week; sometimes once every two weeks! Dr. Saylor was wonderful with Nate! He was so afraid of doctors at this point, but she took the time to talk to him and explain how the KST device works. She even let him change the different tools as she worked on him. The jungle room is awesome! It makes the “doctor’s office” a fun place to go!
It took only eight weeks, going 2-3 times each week, to see improvement with Nate’s bowel issues. He now knows when he has to go and feels so much better. Nate is doing so well that we know see Dr. Saylor about once a month just to make sure that he’s feeling well and that everything is moving through like it should. I would highly recommend Van Every Family Chiropractic Center and Dr. Saylor to anyone!

Race horses love chiropractic

When a top-class thoroughbred wasn't responding to standard veterinary practice, Tim Johnson, DC was called in. "[The horse] responded very quickly," he says. "His gait improved immediately…. Two weeks later he won a race in Adelaide and a few weeks later came second in the Cox Plate." Equine chiropractors become important players in an industry where a small injury can render someone's multimillion-dollar investment worthless. A successful adjustment is "like rebooting your computer," says Dr. Johnson, "It resets the reflexes in the nervous system in that area." "The horses start to enjoy it because they know they are going to get relief. They're pretty smart animals. Once they get relief they are more likely to stand still and enjoy it." Some even get hooked. On one occasion when he returned to a stud farm where he had treated two horses the previous week, the same two horses came bounding up to greet him.

Why Become a Chiropractor?

I’m sure you may have wondered, “Why do people become chiropractors?” Many chiropractors hail from medical families where a parent, sibling or other relative is in the medical profession. There are people who left the practice of medicine for chiropractic. Why is that? We’re glad you asked.

Chiropractic is a unique profession – we don’t put anything into your body or take anything out – no drugs, no surgery, no devices, no chemicals. And yet case histories abound of people with all kinds of horrible conditions (some of which we mention in this newsletter each month) rediscovering health and wellness after a chiropractic adjustment.
Who is the real doctor? The real doctor is you. Your body has the ability to heal itself from every disease.

Your chiropractor releases blockages, called subluxations, inside you that interfere with your natural healing ability and therefore prevent full healing.
When these blockages are located and released (or adjusted) the result is a healthier you – more balance, more energy, more healing. Chiropractic students learn, among other things, how to locate and correct subluxations.

A nice side effect of becoming a chiropractor is that you learn about a drug-free lifestyle that includes organic and nutrient dense foods, non-invasive peaceful childbirth, breastfeeding and natural immunity. Plus, it’s an enjoyable profession. Enhancing health and wellness is fun and rewarding.

What is Chiropractic and How can it Help Me ?

What is Chiropractic and How can it Help Me?

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a hands-on, holistic, alternative health care approach to better health and increased livelihood through diet, exercise and (of course) manipulation of the spine and extremities. We are considered to be the neuromusculoskeletal (nerve-muscle-skeleton) professionals. Chiropractic is a lifestyle of health care.

How can Chiropractic help me?
Chiropractic can help you by working with you and your other healthcare professionals (M.D., and D.O.) by maintaining your spine in proper alignment. Every organ in the body is under some sort of neurological (nerve) control, so doesn’t it make sense that if nerve impulses do not get to the organ its function will be compromised!

Not all nerve impulses have a stimulatory effect on organs; some nerve impulses inhibit the organs they influence. For example, the Vagus Nerve has an inhibitory effect on the heart causing the heart to slow its rate when it receives these signals. The same Vagus Nerve, however, on the stomach and digestive tract stimulates these organs into increasing their activity. Through manipulation of the spine, the Chiropractor helps place the spine in proper alignment to prevent a malfunction of nerve impulses to other organs and tissues.
